One way to measure progress in learning is through testing. Group lesson students have periodic skills tests throughout their program to determine if they are ready to move onto the next "star" group.
For those who have mastered basic skating skills and are ready to focus on individual skating disciplines (figures, dance, freestyle and pairs), there is a whole testing structure in which skaters may participate. Tests start with fundamental skills, figures or dances, and advance to World-Class level. With the exception of the highest Gold Medal tests, which must be skated in the presence of national-level judges, Roller Garden ASC offers proficiency tests every 2-3 months. Each skater performs their test requirements before a panel of three certified judges, who score the test and determine whether or not the skater demonstrated the skills required to pass the test. Skaters who pass their tests are awarded a pin, and their names are published in an issue of the USARS magazine.
Test centers are open to any skater prepared to test; you do not have to be a member of our club to participate. Contact our head professional, Diane Brown, for information about upcoming test centers.
Roller skating proficiency tests are determined and administered by the Roller Skating Association International (RSA). For more information on the test requirements, please click the link below:
